Money Scammers

Money scammers are more interested in preying on your purse stings then your heart strings, but they are adept at doing both. They will infiltrate your life with lies and compliments and sometimes even gifts and vow their undying loyalty. The least adept will leave their email right away, but the slimy clever ones will use your profile and any information you give them to create a persona of the male/female of your dreams.

The pictures are often stolen from modeling sites and their profiles and their life story are often stolen as well.

They may try several profiles to entice and once you leave your email, they will begin the hook.

Ask pertinent questions, such as, may I see a picture of you with the last sculpture you sculpted. My I see you in that hockey uniform or beside the Gran Torino you love so much. These can be faked with photo shop so be sure to ask for specifics which will be difficult to find on the internet.

Ask lots of questions and expect answers and keep the answers. They do seem to use their real stats to be able to remember as they are usually speaking to many people at once, but in the case of a man pretending to be a female model from Russia.... hard to do heheh.

Get as much information as they will give you and compare often.

Females will often scam using their bodies and making promises of sex and servitude. They will appeal to your manhood to get money from you. IE: They were orphaned, mistreated or beaten and now live on the streets or with a mean uncle or with the pastor. They were injured, raped, hit by a drunk driver... etc They might even have the “pastor” or “doctor” call to confirm this. Then they will ask for money to be sent so they can come be with you. NEVER give out any cash for any reason! If you want a Russian bride, meet one, return home and get a visa for her and then go get her.

Males will often pretend they are well educated, civil Engineers and consultants, who travel the world. Often they will pretend to be pilots, or involved in film, the arts, or to live in the states as well as abroad.... anything to lead you astray as they pretend to be traveling all over the world to keep one step from actually meeting you. Always promising that in a few months they will be there for you. They appeal to the femininity and nurturing, so might use children and pictures of them or even have them call you and say “mommy!”. They will be pretend to be well off, but want you to cash some cheques or money orders or send them money because their credit cards and passport were stolen. They will feign accidents and tragedies once they have you hooked on them.

Romance Scammers

Pure date scammers are tired of not getting messages so they will do the cut and paste and tell that person they are slightly interested in that they adore the profile and would love to meet someone so wonderful as you and you are the only one who they were slightly attracted to.

Once they leave their EMAIL (and it is often right away) be sure not to divulge who you were on the date site, but reply generically and tell them how wonderful you thought there profile was as well. Then, ask them what attracted them most about your profile and watch them sweat as they do not know which one you are!

One fellow who did this, said who are you, when I wrote back that it was lovely he liked my profile so much. He said that I was the only one he cared about or was interested in, so why would he not know who I was. I refused to tell him, so I could expose him as a scammer.

Once I did, he divulged he was a nice widowed family man who was horrified that I called him a scammer, but in truth he really was a low-life, lying to attract prey with spam mail. He said he wanted to see who was the nicest person and wanted to see what each reply would be so he could choose a mate that way.

Choosing a mate by replies of a spam scam on a dating site? Ouch, he will get what he deserves. Another liar who wrote back what he wanted to hear I am hoping.

There are some who will make one profile and reply from another. Although the scammer insisted he didn't know he still had his old profile active, he insisted I was being silly to care... but he forgot the other profile was 6 years younger and had different coloured eyes.

They also are emphatic about wanting honesty....

Spotting scammers

Scammers will target date sites for vulnerable lonely people and also target any harvested email they cam.

1) Be assured anyone who immediately leaves their email address for you is a scammer. Real people interested in you want to learn more about you.

2) Beware of anyone falling in love right away or asking for money at any time.

3) Scammer will often not reply to your letters, but will use cut and paste info from stolen profiles and love letters online. Keep asking questions and expect answers.

4)Scammers will send information which is appealing and full of provocative picture for males or heart wrenching stories and love letters to females.

5 Scammers are persistent and may use other emails and tricks once they are in contact with you.

6) Scammers never live near you. They claim to be from the US or Canada (far away from you) and yet write in scamlish (poor English) and when you do get to phone, their accents are so thick you can barely understand them (because they are in Nigeria or Ghana for the most part)

Avoid being scammed

Most of the profiles on the dating sites are people who are lonely, looking for love or at least sex... but because some of us are also vulnerable in our loneliness, we are prone to attack by vultures who are out to deceive you and steal your heart and sometimes try to steal your money.

To counter scams, be sure any email you use is a throw away, is obscure and does not disclose anything that can be traced to you. Never tell your real name on a dating site. Use a nickname and no last names. Even a phone number is a problem because you can be traced with it. All of that can be disclosed later, after you meet and trust the person. Absolutely never give out your bank information, S.I.N or credit card numbers to anyone!
